I know it’s February, but I’m just getting around to formulating my New Year’s resolutions. (Come to think of it, it’s the Lunar New Year! Let’s just go with that.)
Here are my New Year’s resolutions:
- This year hike 100 miles
- This year bike 1000 miles
- Keep that weight off!
Last year I hiked over 100 miles and I biked over 1000. But even though I did it last year, I feel like I need some motivation to keep up the momentum. Also, my weight’s been creeping up up up…
I can’t believe it’s been almost three months since Megan and I got back from Ecuador! There, even though we ate a lot of starch and drank amazing amounts of carb-loaded beer, we managed to trim down. Someone said that it’s because of the altitude. You lose weight at higher altitudes. Is that true? I should google it.
Since getting back (in the middle of November), I’ve been lazy and hungry. I’ve gained 6 lbs. and I’m starting to panic. I’ve been going to the gym (on and off. Sometimes I go three times a week, but other weeks I’ll manage to make it over there once and then only have a half-hearted workout), but that’s not good enough. I need to get out there and push myself and feel good again!
So, here’s my public commitment to hiking and biking and moving and not getting fat. If I slack, feel free to publicly shame me. Sometimes that’s the only thing that will keep me motivated.

FYI, I have gone out there this year. Not a lot, but I’ve tried, and since it’s still winter, it’s better than nothing.
